Salzburg: Frequently Asked Questions

Well, not frequently, but I have been asked a few things, here and on Discord, and I'd like to collect the answers in one place.

When does the deck get reshuffled?

That rule is hidden away in the credits box on the first page, which maybe isn't the ideal place... The deck gets shuffled at the beginning of a session and also at midnight (in-game).

What happens when the deck is depleted?

I'd rule that the party is exhausted and needs to make camp - er, go to bed. No more risky actions on this day, sorry!

Why do the chargen things have options on a 1-6 if the rest of the game uses cards?

It didn't occur to me. Great idea to consistently use cards! Just keep drawing until you get an Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

Expanded tables will have to wait for the deluxe edition though...

How do you handle discovering and leveraging secrets when the players know them in advance?

True secrets are of course impossible in a GM-less game, but I believe playing characters who are "not in on the secret yet" is great fun. The secrets thus provide a focal point for the narration. Players can allude to them all the time, slowly making them more obvious for the characters.

Of course, if the game is played in traditional fashion, the GM should not tell players any secrets in advance. I am eager to try this, but haven't had a chance yet.

Why Salzburg?

I tested this game during a holiday in the Salzburg area. I had nothing but the oracle mechanic at that point, and as I read a bit on the history of Salzburg, it seemed a great thematic fit.

If you have any further questions, I'll be happy to answer them!
